Stepstone Island

Help Olly the Osprey nurture Stepstone Island back to health in this mobile fitness game! Using the health data collected by the Health app on your iPhone®, your step count and distance walked will be converted into coins and milestones. These currencies can then be used to purchase items in Olly's Outlet such as tools, plants, and landmarks. Depending on what you place onto the island, guests may visit and compliment your hard work!

Stepstone Island is my MFA in Interactive Media thesis project, and the idea for this game started from wanting to work with the data generated from a fitness wristband my brother-in-law gave to me for Christmas one year. Since then, it has grown into questioning whether or not applying this data to a reinforcement system found in idle games such as Neko Atsume, Cookie Clicker, or Tap Tap Fish can effectively motivate people to exercise more. These games all exhibit a variation of the same system; Feed the cats in order to get more fish to attract even more cats. Gather more cookies to buy farms that give you more cookies. Buy coral to generate more vitality to buy more coral and fish. I believe combining this kind of system with fitness is an area worth exploring. Follow Olly on twitter @StepstoneIsland for updates on the project!
