As a part of USC Games, the Esports Union introduces the first Varsity Esports Teams for University of Southern California. Starting with League of Legends in Fall 2018, our program aims to provide foundational support for driven student leaders to establish both competitive teams and club communities for all esports—including Overwatch, Hearthstone, Super Smash Brothers, and more in the 2019-2020 academic year.
Our department supports students to become student officers with faculty advisors, equipment, and practice space to empower them to become leaders on campus. Teams and clubs are assisted with budget development through consideration of member dues, sponsorships, and department allocations. Clubs are operated under the Department of Student Affairs, with additional support for Varsity teams from the Recreational Club Council for athletic sports.
The Esports Union administration aims to provide unprecedented opportunities for student involvement and demonstrate the connection between game design and gameplay. As part of the collaboration between the School of Cinematic Arts and Viterbi School of Engineering, the Esports Union introduces unparalleled opportunities for students to delve into understanding and fostering community and competition through interactive media. The Esports Union works to provide an environment where students can experience management, funding, event setup, travel, networking, and more. Ultimately, students are presented with a unique appreciation for Esports’ fundamental values to complement the leading Interactive Media and Games programs at USC.
